Last Saturday (28th May 2011) six of us braved the winter cold and went sketching at the “Second Cup” coffee shop at the Weltevreden Farm on John Vorster Drive. This was my second recent attempt at plein air oil painting. It was not very smart painting in the shade on a winter morning. Suppose the choice was to either stand in the sunlight or paint the sunlight. Challenging!

Its really good John, Wow! Love the impressionist style, well done !!
I love this painting John, a wonderful feel of looking from the shadows (brrr – that was cold!) into the sunlight. I can’t believe this is only your second attempt at plein air oils, it’s outstanding!
Thanks so much.
Really impressive! I love the way our eyes are drawn to the light!
Je viens d’ouvrir votre blog conseillée par Cathy.
Votre huile est si belle que je ne peux que vous le dire.
Elle est lumineuse et profonde. Bravo !
On a envie de se ballader dans ce chemin….
What an exquisite oil painting. It reminds me a little of the colour palette of the impressionist Alfred Sisley. I love it.
Thanks for all the comments.
@Judith: Wow – Sisley!? hehe, very kind words. I dream of painting like him!
